Enterprise & Innovation; The Biscuit Factory (Newcastle)

The biscuit factory is another example of a gallery/shop space that currently exists and more proof that this kind of idea can work. I have visited the biscuit factory personally and the space itself is very large so can fit a lot of artists work within it which is just one of the elements that will make it so successful. They take on works in a range of media so that when the consumer visits there is likely to be something that appeals to everyone. Anyone can exhibit at this gallery, all you have to do is get in touch with them via links on the website and they don't take rent for selling your work, they take a small percentage of everything you make. I feel that this actually works to their advantage because the difference between them and our idea is that they use well established artists so the works sell for a reasonable amount of money. Therefore there is no need for them to take massive amounts of rent too. The biscuit factory has become so well established that it now has its own chartity too which supports those wanting to make it within the art world, giving them a helping hand. This will make the whole gallery more appealing because not enough people give to the community so this is a nice feature. The space they have also includes some artists galleries which can be rented to create personal work in. This is again another form of support the gallery has and shows they are really passionate about the art industry.
